This is an important role at the centre of New Zealand’s standards system. Standards are a critical part of New Zealand’s economic infrastructure, helping support consumer protection, fair competition, trade, market access, quality, safety, productivity and wider economic benefits for New Zealanders.

The Board plays a key role in ensuring New Zealand Standards are developed through robust, balanced and transparent processes, including appropriate consultation, representative committee membership, and independent approval of new, revised or adopted standards.

As Board Secretary, you will provide high-quality administrative, co-ordination and advisory support to the Board, its Chair, Board members, and Standards New Zealand management. You will coordinate meeting schedules, prepare agendas, compile and circulate Board papers, record accurate minutes and decisions, maintain official records, track actions, support induction and onboarding, and help ensure Board processes are efficient, compliant with legislative requirements and well managed.

We are looking for someone with strong written communication skills, excellent attention to detail, sound judgement, discretion and the confidence to work with senior stakeholders. You will ideally have experience supporting a board, committee or senior governance group, and be comfortable working with statutory or regulatory processes, sensitive information and formal decision-making records. Strong organisational skills, professionalism, integrity, attention to detail, and the ability to manage deadlines and juggle competing priorities are essential.

There is some flexibility in how the role is worked, including flexibility around working hours. This may suit someone seeking a role that can be balanced with family or caring responsibilities, while still contributing to a nationally significant public sector function.
