Tēnei tūranga - About the Role:

 

We are looking for an enthusiastic and highly motivated solicitor to join our Corporate & Registries team. The Corporate & Registries team provides legal advice to all MBIE’s operations, including in relation to MBIE’s 17 different regulatory systems and on governance, integrity and conduct matters that touch the organisation.


In this role you will work with other in-house counsel providing high quality and timely advice on a wide range of legal issues. You will work with autonomy in a collaborative and supportive environment and learn from the experts to build your knowledge as well as sharing your knowledge with others to provide advice and support on some of MBIE’s most complex legal matters.


Over time, there is scope for our lawyers to work in relation to different regulatory systems, depending on their experience and interest.  This also means that we can offer significant opportunities for developing experience across a broad variety of subject areas and building your career within MBIE.


Currently there is a particular opportunity to focus on supporting Immigration New Zealand on an important programme of work designed to provide a trusted world class immigration service.  This will mean working alongside our immigration solicitors as you proactively engage and build collaborative relationships and advise across the programme.

To be successful in the role, you will need to have the following:

 

  • A tertiary qualification in law and a practising certificate
  • Experience in public law and an understanding of the mechanisms of government
  • Well-developed written and verbal communication abilities, which allow you to convey key ideas and issues in a way that is suitable to the audience
  • The ability to deliver successful outcomes in a demanding environment
  • Strong relationship management skills and an ability to work well with others
  • Enthusiasm, drive, and a proactive nature
  • Experience working in relation to one or more of MBIE’s 17 regulatory systems
  • A particular interest in the immigration system
