Tēnei tūranga - About the Role:

 

We are looking for a Senior Registration and Licensing Officer to join our Occupational Regulation team in Wellington.

 

This is an opportunity to contribute to services that matter to New Zealanders by supporting occupational licensing and registration schemes across areas such as electrical workers, licensed building practitioners, immigration advisers, motor vehicle traders, auctioneers and pool inspectors.

 

In this role, you will process applications, maintain public registers, respond to enquiries from the public and practitioners, and make decisions under delegation across a range of licensing and registration functions. You will also take the lead on more complex or higher-risk work and contribute to continuous improvement activities that strengthen quality, timeliness and consistency.

 

You will bring sound judgement, a strong customer focus, and the confidence to apply legislation, policy, procedures and guidelines in a practical way. You will also provide advice and mentoring to more junior colleagues and help lift capability across the team.

Skills and Experience Required
 

  • Experience in occupational licensing, registration, or a similar administrative environment where legislation, policy and procedures must be applied accurately
  • Proven ability to interpret and apply legislation, policy, procedures and guidelines to support accurate, consistent decision-making.
  • Demonstrated experience managing a high-volume workload, including more complex or higher-risk applications, with strong attention to detail.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to respond clearly and professionally to enquiries from the public and practitioners.
  • Sound judgement, initiative and problem-solving skills, with the confidence to work under delegation and escalate issues where appropriate.
  • A positive attitude and the energy and drive to deliver high-quality work and follow tasks through to completion.
  • Ability to support and mentor others, share knowledge, and contribute positively to team capability and performance.
  • A continuous improvement mindset, with a focus on lifting quality, timeliness and consistency across processes and services.

 

Applicants must have the legal right to live and work in New Zealand. Please note that, for this role, there is also a statutory requirement that the successful candidate must not have worked in Immigration New Zealand visa processing within the last two years.
