Tēnei tūranga - About the Role:

In the System and Markets Policy team, we provide quality policy analysis and advice to inform decisions on the strategic direction of the building regulatory system, including on ‘big picture’ challenges and opportunities for reform. Current priorities include work to reform the structure of Building Consent Authorities and the way liability is managed in the building system.

We think strategically about the role of government in the building system and provide advice on how regulatory structures and settings could work to deliver better outcomes for the economy and built environment. A high-performing team of critical thinkers, we are not afraid to challenge the status quo and come up with innovative solutions for complex problems.

This role sits in Building System Performance Branch (BSP), within the Building, Resources and Markets Group of MBIE. BSP is responsible for providing policy and technical advice on New Zealand's building system, rules and standards, and implementing building legislation and regulations. We want everyone to have safe, healthy, durable homes and buildings, supporting MBIE's goal to grow New Zealand for all.
