Tēnei tūranga - About the Role:


As a Senior Data Analyst, you’ll play a key role in leading high-impact data analysis across the immigration system. Sitting within the Joint Targeting and Analytics (JTA) team in the Risk and Verification (R&V) group, you’ll provide technical leadership, deliver complex insights, and support decision-making at all levels—from frontline operations to senior leadership.

  • Lead complex, sensitive, and high-profile data analysis to support immigration risk targeting.
  • Provide accurate and timely data for operational decision-making, PQs, OIAs, and media responses.
  • Mentor and coach team members, ensuring consistency and quality in data practices.
  • Support leadership with technical oversight and contribute to quality improvement initiatives.
  • Collaborate across JTA and R&V to allocate resources where they’re needed most.

Skills and Experience Required

  • Tertiary qualification in a numerate discipline (e.g. Statistics, Computer Science) or equivalent experience (3–5+ years).
  • Proven experience in SQL, Power BI, and R, with strong data warehousing skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to translate complex data into clear, actionable insights.
  • Experience in technical leadership, mentoring, or advisory roles.
  • Strong understanding of relational databases, statistical trend analysis, and business information tools.
  • Excellent communication skills—able to tailor messages for technical and non-technical audiences.
  • Highly organised, self-managing, and comfortable working in dynamic environments.
  • Ability to build strong relationships and work effectively within a team.
