About the Role - Tēnei tūranga:

We are looking for two experienced senior communications advisors to support the communications for the Building, Resources and Markets Group and the Regional Development & Commercial Services Group at the Ministry of Business, Innovation and Employment (MBIE). 

You'll partner with subject matter experts across government to turn complex information into clear, meaningful communications. From providing strategic advice and supporting major announcements to navigating fast-moving and high-profile issues, no two days are ever quite the same.

These communications teams sit within MBIE’s broader communications function, giving you the opportunity to learn from experienced communications professionals across the organisation and broaden your experience through a wide range of work and development opportunities.

Building, Resources and Markets Group

BRM is at the heart of many of the issues that matter to New Zealanders. We help shape the regulatory systems, markets and policy settings that underpin New Zealand's economy. Our work spans everything from the building system, energy and resource markets, to consumer protection, communications infrastructure, trade and supply chains. It's complex, high-profile work that has a direct impact on businesses, communities and consumers across Aotearoa.

Regional Development and Commercial Services

The Regional Development & Commercial Services Group brings together the management of significant regional investments and commercial activity as a centre of commercial expertise for MBIE. It delivers government investment into New Zealand’s regions to build their economies, grow businesses, and strengthen communities, through Kānoa – Regional Economic Development & Investment Unit. The group also leads and supports government property and procurement through the Government Property Office (GPO) and New Zealand Government Procurement (NZGP).

As part of a small, collaborative team, you’ll support a communications work programme that includes significant announcements regarding regional development funding and milestones, government procurement and the management of government office accommodation.

Skills and Experience Required
 

To be successful in this role, you will be able to:

• think on your feet, work under pressure and multi-task in a fast-paced environment
• develop, design and deliver comprehensive communications strategies
• help manage our media relationships and have a sound understanding of the media landscape
• build strong working relationships with senior managers, ministers’ offices and subject matter experts
• know about Government decision-making and operating procedures
• be proactive, positive, bring great ideas to the table, have sound judgement and discretion
• deep experience in issues and risk management, proactive engagement and communications planning.

Ideally you would also have more than five years’ experience in creating and delivering internal and external communications strategies and supporting material.
