About the Role - Tēnei tūranga:

We have an exciting opportunity for two Senior Analysts to join the Labour Market Analysis team within MBIE's Employment, Skills and Immigration Policy branch.

The team provides actionable insights on labour market performance, trends and future workforce needs. Our work spans labour market monitoring, analysis and forecasting, helping government understand current labour market conditions and prepare for future workforce requirements. We are building New Zealand’s future labour market analysis and forecasting capability, developing sophisticated analytical products, insights, and tools that support better workforce and policy decisions. This contributes to MBIE’s role as a leading source of insight on current and future labour market conditions.

As a Senior Analyst, you will lead and contribute to complex analytical projects, applying a range of quantitative and qualitative methods to develop insights and forecasts that support decision-making. You will work closely with policy teams, analysts and stakeholders across government to ensure robust evidence is translated into practical advice and action.

You will have opportunities to shape new analytical approaches, strengthen labour market evidence and contribute to work that directly informs Ministers, government agencies and workforce planning across sectors and regions. Success in this role will require strong analytical skills, curiosity and an ability to connect evidence with real-world workforce challenges.

• Proven ability to apply economic and analytical thinking to understand labour market trends, risks and opportunities
• Proven ability to draw clear insights from complex data and evidence
• Experience delivering complex analytical products/projects and working through ambiguity
• Desired but not essential: experience in labour market economics and forecasting, workforce analysis, statistical modelling
• Ability to translate technical analysis into clear, practical insights for a range of audiences
• Experience contributing to insights into policy advice, strategy development or other decision-making processes
• Strong stakeholder engagement skills and experience working collaboratively across teams or organisations
• Ability to build relationships, influence outcomes and work effectively with people from a range of disciplines
