Tēnei tūranga - About the Role:
The Senior Advisor plays a key role in shaping the narrative on how policy and technical initiatives within the building regulatory system are performing, and where improvements or efficiencies can be achieved.
Senior Advisors will:
- Translate data, monitoring and research findings into clear, actionable advice for senior leaders, stakeholders and Ministers
- Work collaboratively across building regulatory system teams to ensure best practice in monitoring, reporting and evaluation, driving a joined-up view of system performance
- Lead and coordinate evaluation priorities, including managing contracts for outsourced evaluation
- Proactively develop and maintain connections with stakeholders or other Ministries on insights or system performance, and
- Drive system stewardship and support the maintenance of data standards for the building consent system.
The ideal candidate brings strong strategic thinking, research and analytical capability, and can influence outcomes to strengthen system performance.
Ngā pukenga me ngā wheako e hiahiatia ana - Skills and Experience Required
We are looking for someone who has:
- Strong experience with procurement and contract management of outsourced service provision
- Strong understanding of the strategic context, priorities, and wider issues in the building regulatory system, with sound judgement on what matters most
- Strong knowledge of qualitative and quantitative methodologies
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills, able to convey complex ideas clearly to diverse audiences, including Ministers
- Ability to combine storytelling with qualitative and quantitative insights
- Experience with, or ability to learn, reporting tools such as Power BI
- Relevant postgraduate qualification evaluation and research methods and an understanding of regulatory systems is an advantage
- Good understanding of the public sector, including the Ministry’s role and government processes
- Must have the legal right to live and work in New Zealand and be able to satisfy the Ministry’s security clearance requirements.
