Tēnei tūranga - About the Role:
We’re looking for an experienced person to join our Resource Markets branch as a Senior Advisor - Regulatory Practice.
This role is about making regulatory change work in the real world. You’ll take new or changing policy, legislation, and operational processes and turn them into clear guidance, system information, and engagement that people can actually use.
You’ll work closely with policy, operational, and technical teams to help regulated parties understand what’s required and comply more easily.
Regulatory Practice works across the branch and manages how regulatory information is delivered through channels such as websites, system content, and communications, and how people experience the regulatory system in practice. This is a hands‑on senior role where you’ll lead pieces of work end to end, create and oversee practical content, help manage channels, and work with teams across the branch to improve how the system operates day to day.
This role will suit you if you:
- Like taking complex processes and turning them into clear guidance, decisions, and actions people can follow
- Are comfortable owning work end to end, from shaping an approach through to delivery and ongoing improvement
- Enjoy working between policy intent and operational reality, and care about how things work in practice
What You’ll Be Doing
You’ll lead and deliver work that directly improves how the regulatory system operates in practice, including:
- Developing, maintaining, and owning regulatory guidance and system information for different external audiences
- Translating policy and operational changes into practical implementation material, delivered through various channels
- Leading end‑to‑end programmes of work to embed changes, from planning and delivery through to evaluation
- Improving how regulatory information is delivered across channels, including websites, social media, inboxes, and our service centre.
- Using insights from stakeholders and the system to identify emerging issues early and develop solutions

Skills and Experience Required
We’re keen to hear from people who bring some of the experience below, or who think they’d be a great fit for this mahi. You don’t need to meet every requirement, and your background could be in operations, regulatory practice, communications, engagement, policy, or a mix of these. What matters most is your ability to work confidently across complexity, ambiguity, and change, and to turn regulatory intent into something that works in practice.
You’ll likely bring:
- Experience working in or with regulatory systems, or an understanding of how regulation operates in practice
- Experience developing clear, high‑quality guidance, content, or system information for different audiences
- Experience translating complex legislation, policy, or technical material into plain English
- Strong planning and delivery skills, with the ability to manage end‑to‑end work and multiple priorities
- Experience applying customer‑or human‑centred design approaches to operational change, or system improvement
- A practical, solutions‑focused mindset and comfort working with uncertainty
- A commitment to public service values and the principles of Te Tiriti o Waitangi
