Tēnei tūranga - About the Role:
MBIE relies on a diverse range of Crown entities, statutory boards and Crown companies to deliver on the Government's science goals. These entities include Crown Agents such as Callaghan Innovation and Crown Companies (such as NIWA, Plant and Food Research, Ag Research etc.) and Section 4 Companies Such as REANNZ.
It's an exciting time to join MBIE to influence the ‘performance story' of our Crown entities. We are looking for a Senior Advisor Performance & Investment to join our team, reporting to the Manager, Science, Innovation and Technology (SI&T) Performance and Investment.
You will have the opportunity to lead guidance, advice, assessment and support on all aspects of performance for the science Crown entities /Companies for which MBIE holds monitoring responsibility
You will exercise professional judgement in scoping, shaping and planning advice and projects in complex and sensitive areas. The role is varied and sits at the nexus between performance monitoring, data / systems analysis and policy advice and evaluation. In addition to advising on strategic direction and performance of the science crown entity’s, you will also have a role in establishing accountability and funding arrangements, undertake analysis of major capital investments and support the development of investment and policy advice/evaluation as required.
In this role you will develop detailed knowledge of the science Crown entities/Crown companies and lead challenging conversations as required, whilst maintaining strong relationships within MBIE, across other Government agencies and with the Crown entities/Crown companies.

Skills and Experience Required
To be successful in this role, candidates should have a minimum of five years’ experience in a relevant field and/or hold a Chartered Accountant qualification.
Further to this we are keen to hear from you if you can demonstrate an ability to:
- Assess business and financial performance and/or to undertake complex data analysis.
- Identify strategic risks and options for mitigation.
- Work in a challenging environment with commercial and/or public sector experience.
- Clearly communicate complex issues both orally and in writing.
- Develop credible, respected relationships with diverse stakeholders at a range of levels of seniority.
- Be flexible and respond to changes in priorities and demands for work and undertake effective risk management.
- Generate and adopt new and creative ways for assessing performance.
- Brief Ministers and Cabinet/Select Committees.
- Share knowledge/expertise within the team to coach and mentor others.
