Standards New Zealand (SNZ) is Aotearoa’s national standards body, working at the intersection of government, industry, and community to develop standards that improve the lives of all New Zealanders. As the New Zealand member of the International Organization for Standardization (ISO), and through our involvement with the International Electrotechnical Commission (IEC), we ensure New Zealand’s interests are represented in global standards development.


We’re looking for a Senior Advisor – International Engagement to lead our international standards participation, build strategic relationships, and champion standards solutions that matter to New Zealand.

 

What you’ll be doing:

 

In this dynamic and strategic role, you’ll:

 

  • Lead engagement with key stakeholders—government agencies, industry bodies, and international organisations.
  • Identify and prioritise international standards projects that align with New Zealand’s interests.
  • Support expert committees and ensure effective participation in ISO and IEC processes.
  • Manage obligations and relationships with international standards bodies.
  • Prepare and present recommendations to the Standards Approval Board.
  • Represent New Zealand in international standards forums and ensure our voice is heard.

Skills and Experience Required
 

We’re looking for someone proactive, collaborative, and confident in navigating complex stakeholder environments. You’ll ideally have:

 

  • Significant experience in strategic engagement roles.
  • Strong communication, analytical, and report-writing skills.
  • Political awareness and understanding of government priorities.
  • Understanding of standards and conformance (preferred).
  • Proven ability to manage systems, frameworks, and stakeholder relationships.
  • International engagement experience and confidence representing New Zealand.
  • A relevant tertiary qualification or equivalent experience.
  • Legal right to live and work in New Zealand.

 

Note: Some international meetings/webinars may occur outside standard business hours.
