This is a unique opportunity to play a pivotal role in the delivery of one of the world's premier sporting events. We're looking for an experienced and highly capable Senior Advisor who thrives in a fast-paced environment, can confidently navigate complexity, and enjoys working at the centre of high-profile projects and stakeholder relationships. 

MBIE is the Crown lead agency for the ICC Men's T20 World Cup 2028, working alongside government agencies, the International Cricket Council, New Zealand Cricket, host cities and key delivery partners to ensure New Zealand successfully co-hosts this globally significant event.  

Reporting to the Programme Manager, you'll lead strategic and operational workstreams across the T20 World Cup Programme Office, provide high-quality advice to Ministers and senior officials, and support governance arrangements that help ensure successful tournament delivery. You'll work across government and the major events system to identify risks, solve complex problems, drive cross-agency collaboration and maximise wider economic, tourism and legacy opportunities for New Zealand. 

This role will suit someone with strong relationship management skills, sound judgement, and excellent communication abilities who can quickly bring together information from multiple sources, provide clear and practical advice, and build trusted partnerships with diverse stakeholders.

Skills and Experience Required
 

What you will bring:

• Experience providing high-quality strategic, operational or policy advice in government, major events, tourism, sport, communications, public policy or a similarly complex environment
• Strong understanding of government processes, including experience preparing Ministerial briefings, responses and advice for senior decision-makers
• Proven ability to lead projects, workstreams or complex pieces of work involving multiple stakeholders, priorities and dependencies
• Excellent relationship management skills, with the ability to build trust and influence outcomes across government agencies, local government, sporting organisations and external stakeholders
• Outstanding written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to synthesise information and present clear, concise and actionable advice
• Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to identify issues, assess options and develop practical solutions
• Experience chairing meetings, facilitating discussions, navigating sensitive issues and driving progress across diverse stakeholder groups
• Strategic thinking capability, with the ability to connect programme delivery to broader government, tourism, economic and legacy outcomes
• Strong organisational skills, attention to detail and the ability to successfully manage competing priorities in a dynamic environment
• A relevant tertiary qualification in public policy, events, communications, marketing or a related discipline, or equivalent professional experience
