Tēnei tūranga - About the Role:

 

Drive and influence how the Resource Markets branch delivers high-quality governance, programme management, and regulatory services. As Senior Advisor - Programme and Branch Services, you’ll play a key role in ensuring consistent, timely, and efficient delivery of cross-branch functions while supporting regulatory regimes that connect with other agencies like WorkSafe, DOC, regional councils, and the EPA.

 

You will:

  • Lead and support branch business planning, performance monitoring, and risk management, ensuring work is structured and delivered using effective project and programme management approaches.
  • Coordinate responses to Official Information Act requests, Parliamentary questions, and Ministerial servicing.
  • Apply disciplined project management practices to plan, deliver, and track work across multiple workstreams, using initiative to resolve conflicts, manage risks, and keep delivery on track.
  • Deliver governance and quality management functions, compliant with ISO 9001 requirements.
  • Works with stakeholders to develop criteria for project decision making and evaluation of project outcomes

 

This is a senior role where you’ll work on complex issues, often taking ownership of small to medium‑sized projects or leading key workstreams that support branch priorities.

To be successful in this role, you will bring:

  • Demonstrated project management experience, or the capability to lead projects or key workstreams, including planning, sequencing, risk/issue management, and delivering results in complex environments.
  • Strong understanding of regulatory systems and a commitment to effective, risk-based regulation.
  • An outcome‑focused approach with the ability to turn strategy into deliverable work plans.
  • Proven ability to analyse complex information, identify risks, and design practical solutions.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to influence and engage at all levels.
  • Advanced strategic and critical thinking, sound judgement, and attention to detail.
  • Experience in governance, risk, and quality management practices.
  • Strong relationship management skills.
  • Understanding of government processes and accountability frameworks.
  • Must have the legal right to work in New Zealand.

 

Desirable:

  • Tertiary qualification in a relevant discipline.
  • Knowledge of the machinery of government.
