Tēnei tūranga - About the Role:

 

We are seeking a highly motivated Senior Advisor to join the Operations Support and Improvement team within Kānoa – Regional Economic Development & Investment Unit.

 

This role offers the opportunity to contribute to a high-performing team focused on delivering quality advice and continuous improvement across ministerial and operational functions.

 

In this role, you must have experience in the following:

  • Writing and reviewing briefings for Ministers – ensuring that relevant information is presented clearly and accurately.
  • Supporting, and leading when required, the Ministerial Services work programme, including requests under the Official Information Act (OIA), correspondence and Written Parliamentary Questions (WPQs) – ensuring the delivery of high-quality, timely, and consistent advice and correspondence across several diverse portfolios. 
  • Leading responses to complex OIA requests – with in depth knowledge of the OIA and Ombudsman guidelines.
  • Providing expert advice on process management – leading the development of and implementation of operational processes.
  • Undertaking consultation with a variety of stakeholders – across government, the private sector, and the public.
  • Supporting, and leading when required, the coordination and preparation of material for Scrutiny Select Committee hearings (Estimates Examination and Annual Review) – ensuring robust planning and alignment across the Business Group.

 

This is a leadership role that involves working closely with the Manager to build team capability and drive continuous improvement. You will be responsible for developing and maintaining effective processes that enable the team to operate autonomously and deliver high-quality outcomes.

To be successful in the role you will also have experience in the following:

  • Leading the development and documentation of operational processes, including use of Promapp (or equivalent).
  • Identifying improvement opportunities and implementing effective solutions.
  • Maintaining process documentation and templates to support operational consistency.
  • Communicating and socialising new processes across teams.
  • Working effectively in ambiguous environments and responding to evolving priorities.
  • Training others in Ministerial Services workstreams.
  • Writing clearly and concisely in plain English.
  • Building strong relationships and influencing outcomes across teams.
  • Holding a tertiary qualification in a relevant discipline or equivalent work experience.
  • Having the right to live and work in New Zealand.
