Tēnei tūranga - About the Role:
The Principal Advisor is a member of the Demand Management team within the Allocation and Coordination team in the Data Intelligence and Insights branch in the CDSS group.
The Demand Management team is responsible for the triage, allocation, prioritisation and coordination of requests for products and services of the DII branch, it is also the central point of liaison for customers with data needs.
The Principal Advisor will use their relationship management, leadership skills and technical knowledge to lead and coordinate the commissioning and prioritisation process and how it is applied to various initiatives. The position is focused on understanding data product and service demand and supporting customers’ data needs and objectives, so that data solutions can be described and sized for prioritisation and delivery.
The role actively connects the functions needed to develop solutions and monitors the progression of commissioned data initiatives, reporting/presenting on and providing a range of parties with a single point of contact.
The Principal Advisor, Demand Management ensures that data products and services available can fulfil customer needs, and provide a modern approach to data management, analysis, intelligence and insights needs or other customer requirements.
The Principal Advisor, Demand Management will take the lead on a range of data initiatives, will ensure that the consistency and quality of all initiatives is to a high standard and leads input and thought on continuous improvement of products, services and processes; provides coaching and mentoring of others across the team, and wider DII.

Skills and Experience Required
Please ensure you provide clear examples of past performance in the following areas:
- Proven skills and experience in coordinating complex programmes of work, as well as business understanding and perspective, to work in partnership with their Manager and a diverse range of cross functional teams and stakeholders across CDSS and MBIE.
- Leads multiple pieces of work concurrently and actively; and independently plans and manages workload to deliver on short and long-term objectives across the breath of their role.
- Proven experience in building and maintaining effective working relationships and fosters engagement across MBIE to ensure the success of commissioning, demand management and prioritisation efforts.
- Experience in leading with influence, working alongside a range of stakeholders and escalating issues, recognising when those issues need to be elevated to the Manager and/or governance.
- Regularly monitor and report on progress towards achievement of plans and strategies.
- Exceptional teamwork and collaborative abilities and a willingness to share knowledge and expertise with others.
- Ability to absorb complex information and communicate effectively at all levels to both technical and non-technical audiences.
- Familiarity with Agile methodology and ways of working.
Mandatory Requirements:
- Experience in an operational and/or regulatory environment.
- A commitment to your ongoing professional development.
- Previous experience in New Zealand Central Government.
- You must have the right to work and live in New Zealand.
