Tēnei tūranga - About the Role:

This six-month fixed term opportunity for a Principal Advisor will support the Operations Support and Improvement manager to develop and deliver high-quality analysis and advice that aligns to strategic priorities for the government and Ministry.

 

You will draw on research from a range of sources to develop insights to strengthen advice and reporting, including New Zealand’s regions and sectors.

 

This is a leadership role, and you will need to work closely with the manager to increase capabilities across the team and support the development of robust process that support the team to work autonomously.

Skills and Experience Required
 

To be successful in the role you will need:

 

  • Excellent ability to write plain English and produce concise and compelling reports and briefings.
  • A passion for coaching and mentoring others.
  • An eye for detail and a commitment to good process.
  • Excellent interpersonal, teamwork and relationship management skills.
  • Strategic and analytical thinking, and thought leadership.
  • Proven ability to build relationships with both internal and external stakeholders.
  • Knowledge and experience in delivering projects and initiatives using operational policy, service design and/or business process management methodologies.
  • Understands how a government agency functions, understands key government processes and current Government priorities.  
  • Demonstrated general problem identification and solution skills and ability to develop robust solutions that are technically possible and desirable for all people affected.
  • Knowledge of public sector requirements and processes, including official correspondence and working with Ministers and with Ministers’ Offices.
  • A strong track record of achievement of results and ability to maintain a clear focus on long term goals.
  • Ability to deal with concepts and complexity comfortably.
  • Tertiary qualification in relevant discipline or equivalent work experience.
  • Must have the right to live and work in New Zealand
