At MBIE, our purpose is to grow New Zealand for all. We are looking for an experienced and people-focused policy leader to join us as Consumer Policy Manager.

This is a unique opportunity to lead a talented team working at the forefront of consumer and commercial regulation. The team advises the Minister of Commerce and Consumer Affairs on a broad range of consumer law and policy issues and administers key consumer legislation, including the Fair Trading Act, Consumer Guarantees Act, and Customer and Product Data Act.

As Manager, Consumer Policy, you will provide strategic leadership across a high-profile and varied work programme that has a direct impact on New Zealand consumers and businesses. Current areas of work include consumer data rights, product safety, scam prevention initiatives, and wider consumer protection reforms.

We are seeking an experienced policy leader who combines strong people leadership with strategic thinking and sound judgement.

You will bring:

• Proven experience leading policy teams and developing people.
• Significant experience delivering complex public policy, regulatory or legislative programmes.
• Ability to lead at the system level, identify and drive change.
• Strong strategic, analytical and problem-solving skills.
• Excellent communication and influencing skills, including experience working with senior decision-makers and Ministers.
• The ability to navigate ambiguity and balance competing priorities across a broad work programme.
• Experience building trusted relationships across government and external stakeholder groups.
• A commitment to fostering an inclusive, collaborative and high-performing team environment.
