Tēnei tūranga - About the Role:

 

The Manager Ministerial Services is a busy leadership position within the Office of Deputy Secretary, Labour Science and Enterprise (LSE). The Manager will bring their leadership experience and in-depth understanding of machinery of government to continue to foster a collaborative and responsive team environment and work in partnership with other managers and staff, and key external stakeholders including Ministers’ offices. The ability to influence and build relationships across a range of stakeholders is a key requirement for this role.


The role is responsible for:

 

  • Leading the ministerial services team to deliver services across LSE and supporting the continued shift towards centralisation in the Office of Deputy Secretary.
  • Building and enhancing the overall capability of the team to ensure quality and consistency of advice and practices in relation to the team’s work.
  • Engaging with MBIE and other agencies on how we use emerging technology to deliver services more effectively.
  • Liaising with Ministerial offices and managers across MBIE and acting as a point of escalation and risk management.
  • Be a repository of LSE expertise in ministerial services best practice and provide expert advice on complex OIA requests.

  • Experience leading, motivating and managing a team of engaged professionals.
  • Proven ability to develop trust and credibility with senior managers and build relationships across a wide range of business areas.
  • Excellent communication skills – both verbal and written particularly business writing and reporting.
  • A strong understanding of the processes that underpin the operations of the public sector environment, including policy development, Cabinet and parliamentary processes, accountability and reporting.
  • Demonstrated ability to develop policies, frameworks procedures and practice guides.
  • Ideally knowledge and experience in Ministerial Servicing, including of the Official Information Act and Ombudsman guidelines.
  • A relevant tertiary qualification, preferably with experience in a relevant Minister’s office or a central agency. Or relevant experience.
  • You must have the legal right to live and work in New Zealand and be able to satisfy the Ministry’s security clearance requirements.
