Tēnei tūranga - About the Role:

 

The Manager Financial Accounting & Control is a senior people leader and subject matter expert responsible for ensuring MBIE has strong, risk based and fit for purpose financial controls. The role plays a critical part in lifting the Ministry’s financial control environment, supporting strong audit outcomes and providing assurance to Ministers and Select Committees.


The Manager leads the financial accounting function and is accountable for the completeness and integrity of all general ledger reporting. This includes oversight of on  and off balance sheet transactions, as well as accounting for the Ministry’s international activities and global footprint.


The role also drives the development and delivery of finance policies and compliance frameworks, oversees the Ministry’s taxation function, and manages key banking relationships. This includes establishing effective treasury and banking frameworks and ensuring sound management of foreign exchange activities.

Skills and Experience Required
 

For the role of Manager Financial Accounting and Control, ideally you will have the following qualities:


•    Demonstrated experience leading and developing high performing finance teams within complex organisations 
•    Proven capability delivering finance transformation and change initiatives, including the effective use of technology 
•    Experience providing authoritative financial advice and influencing decision making at senior and executive levels 
•    Strong background leading strategic financial accounting and control functions in large public or commercial environments 
•    Well developed expertise in financial controls, risk management, reconciliations and assurance frameworks 
•    Sound knowledge and practical experience in treasury management, banking relationships and foreign exchange 
•    Proven understanding of taxation requirements, including the management of complex tax obligations 
•    Experience working with internal and external audit, and supporting strong governance and assurance outcomes 
•    Excellent stakeholder engagement skills, with the ability to build and maintain trusted and collaborative relationships 
•    CA qualified with 5–10 years’ post qualification experience
•    Must have the legal right to live and work in New Zealand
