Tēnei tūranga - About the Role:

 

MBIE is looking for an experienced commercial people leader to head our Commercial and Contract Management function for Enterprise ICT. This is a pivotal leadership role where you’ll set direction, lift capability, and ensure our largest and most complex contracts deliver value for Aotearoa New Zealand.


Reporting to the Head of Assets and Supplier Management, you’ll lead a specialist team responsible for managing the full contract lifecycle across MBIE’s enterprise ICT portfolio – strengthening supplier performance, managing risk, and embedding best practice commercial discipline.

 

What you’ll be known for


•    Leading and developing high performing commercial teams – coaching, mentoring, and building capability in complex environments
•    Owning the enterprise ICT contract lifecycle, from onboarding and negotiation through to performance management and exit
•    Providing confident commercial leadership, including negotiations, variations, dispute resolution, and commercial assurance
•    Embedding best practice contract management standards, aligned to AoG guidance, legal requirements, and MBIE’s future operating model
•    Driving value for money, measurable savings, and risk reduction through strong commercial insight and performance frameworks
•    Building strong relationships with senior stakeholders and strategic suppliers across government and industry

What we’re looking for


We’re keen to hear from experienced contract management leaders who bring:
•    7+ years’ experience in commercial and contract management, ideally including ICT or technology enabled services
•    Proven people leadership experience, with a strong track record of leading, coaching, and developing specialist teams
•    Formal contract management certification (e.g. WorldCC / IACCM, CPCM, or equivalent) or a strong commitment to professional certification
•    Solid understanding of commercial law principles and confidence reviewing and negotiating complex agreements and Statements of Work
•    Strong stakeholder engagement and negotiation skills at senior and executive level
•    Sound understanding of the machinery of govt
•    A relevant tertiary qualification (or equivalent practical experience)
