About the Role - Tēnei tūranga:
The Head of the Office of the Deputy Secretary is a pivotal leadership role in the TWSD Group and is a member of the Group’s Leadership team.
Reporting directly to the Deputy Secretary you will shape the strategic direction and organisational performance of a group responsible for some of New Zealand's most significant regulatory and operational functions.
In the role you will act as a trusted advisor to the Deputy Secretary and Leadership Team. You will provide high-quality advice and assurance, lead organisational planning and performance activities, oversee key programmes of work, and ensure the effective and efficient operation of all TWSD group-wide Business Management functions.
The ability to work across MBIE and be well connected across Government to lead and/or support MBIE-wide initiatives and interests will be key to achieving success in the role.

Skills and Experience Required
- Proven leadership experience, including developing high-performing teams and leading work through others to achieve organisational outcomes.
- Significant experience leading and providing strategic and operational advice to ministers and senior leaders within a large and complex organisation coupled with strong political awareness, sound judgement, and the ability to navigate competing priorities.
- Applied knowledge of the public sector environment and machinery of government, with an understanding of ministerial and government planning and budgeting processes.
- Exceptional relationship management and communication skills, with the ability to build credibility, influence stakeholders, and work effectively across organisational boundaries.
- Strong analytical mind set and ability to take a system view.
- Proven senior governance, leadership and people management experience, and ability to lead a high performing multi-functional team.
- The ability to gain and maintain a top-secret security clearance.
- Must consent to and satisfactorily complete a credit check as the role holds financial delegations.
