Tēnei tūranga - About the Role:

 

We’re looking for a seasoned and strategic leader to step into the role of Head of Enterprise Portfolio Management Office at MBIE. This is a pivotal role that supports the delivery of high-impact business, digital and technology projects across the organisation.

 

You’ll lead a team of professionals across business analysis, testing, functional consulting, and project planning, ensuring that MBIE’s  initiatives are delivered efficiently and effectively. You’ll also play a key role in shaping and maintaining our enterprise-wide portfolio management practices and governance, helping to align project delivery with MBIE’s strategic goals.

 

This role is ideal for someone with strong  project delivery experience, preferably with a technology and digital capability, a collaborative leadership style, and a passion for building capability and driving continuous improvement in a complex, fast-paced environment.

 

Key Responsibilities


•    Lead and support the delivery of business, digital and technology projects across MBIE
•    Oversee the development and implementation of portfolio management standards and practices including benefit realisation and execution
•    Manage and grow capability across key delivery disciplines including business analysis, testing, and planning
•    Partner with the Chief Technology and Security Officer to ensure alignment with MBIE’s digital strategy
•    Monitor and report on the progress and performance of the technology project pipeline
•    Support resource planning and workforce optimisation across short, medium, and long-term initiatives including succession planning and capability building for the future
•    Foster a strong community of practice and continuous improvement culture

 We’re looking for someone who brings:


•    Proven experience leading business,digital and ICT project delivery in a large, complex environment
•    Strong understanding of systems implementation, upgrades, and digital transformation
•    Experience in risk and benefit management, and solving complex problems under pressure
•    Demonstrated ability to lead and develop high-performing teams across multiple disciplines
•    A strategic mindset with the ability to align delivery with long-term technology trends
•    Understanding of capability building, workforce and resource planning
•    Experience with standard setting, managing vendors and governance
•    Excellent communication and stakeholder engagement skills

Qualifications and Requirements


•    Tertiary qualification or equivalent experience in ICT, business, or a related field
•    Eligibility to obtain and maintain a Top Secret security clearance
•    Legal right to live and work in New Zealand
•    Willingness to undergo a credit check (due to financial delegations)
