Tēnei tūranga - About the Role:

 

The Financial Accountant completes month end process, monthly General Ledger Balance Sheet reconciliations for the Crown and Department as well as clearing outstanding items to ensure that reported results are complete and accurate. Validation of this work occurs by means of a multi layered robust and detailed peer review and signoff process.  As the Financial Accountant you will utilise your deep subject matter expertise to provide advice to increase the understanding of financial accounting management within the Ministry.

  • Proven experience in financial accounting in medium to large organisation
  • High standards of professionalism and performance driven 
  • Demonstrated ability to clearly communicate technical information in plain language 
  • Ability to establish and maintain successful working relationships 
  • Knowledge and understanding of the public sector financial management environment including knowledge of relevant statutes (i.e. Public Finance Act), Government policy and the Treasury guidelines 
  • Technical accounting knowledge in relation to PBE IPSAS, PBE IFRS and other relevant NZ GAAP applicable accounting standards 
  • Extensive experience in reconciliations, control, process improvement, risk management and has a focus on integrity  
  • Chartered Accountant qualified or on track to be fully qualified is desirable 
  • Must have legal right to live and work in NZ
  • Must consent to and satisfactorily complete a credit check
