Tēnei tūranga - About the Role:

We’re looking for a Finance and Investment Accountant to join MBIE’s Finance and Performance group. This specialist role supports the financial operations of Crown Regional Holdings Limited (CRHL), a Schedule 4A Crown Entity, and works closely with Kānoa – Regional Economic Development & Investment Unit, MBIE’s Finance Business Partnering team, and external auditors.


You’ll bring strong technical expertise to ensure accurate financial accounting and reporting for CRHL’s investment portfolio, including concessionary and suspensory loans, equity investments, and asset construction. You’ll also play a key role in maintaining robust internal controls, meeting audit and compliance requirements, and driving process improvements.

 

Key responsibilities:

  • Deliver high-quality month-end processes, reconciliations, and financial reporting for CRHL.
  • Prepare monthly reporting for the CRHL Board and submissions to Treasury via CFISnet.
  • Ensure accurate processing of accounting transactions (AP, AR, journals) and taxation submissions.
  • Provide advice on accounting treatment for loans, equity investments, and asset construction.
  • Support annual audit processes and contribute to CRHL’s annual report.
  • Identify opportunities for continuous improvement in financial controls, systems, and processes.

  • Proven knowledge of NZ Accounting Standards and ability to apply them in complex scenarios.
  • Experience with accounting for loans and equity investments (preferred).
  • Strong problem-solving skills and sound judgement.
  • Excellent communication skills, with the ability to explain technical information in plain language.
  • Ability to build trust and credibility with stakeholders.
  • Tertiary qualification in Accounting.
  • Legal right to live and work in New Zealand.
