About the board

The Engineering Associates Registration Board (EARB) is a statutory body established under the Engineering Associates Act 1961.

 

Functions

The EARB is responsible for determining acceptable standards of academic and technical training, experience, responsibility and appropriate technical qualifications necessary for registrations. Further, they are responsible for confirming an applicant’s eligibility for registration, supervising the maintenance of the Register and the issuance of registration certificates and other records. 

 

Time commitment and remuneration

Board members will be paid according to the Cabinet Fees Framework. The current daily rate is $583 per day. The Board meets in Wellington approximately four times a year, in-person and by audio visual according to workload. Typically, the time commitment for the Chair role would be up to two day per month spent on Board business.

Travelling allowances and expenses are paid in accordance with the Fees and Travelling Allowances Act 1951

Specific skills required

A candidate is sought for the Chair role with the below attributes:

  • Proven leadership skills
  • Ability to Chair and manage meetings
  • Understanding of associated engineering trades education and training issues
  • Sound appreciation of the duties and responsibilities associated with a statutory position
  • Knowledge and understanding of the public sector
  • Good appreciation of the role and responsibilities of the Board.

 

Additional skills, experience and attributes required

Other skills, experience, and attributes required for a Board member are:

  • An ability to constructively discuss issues facing the Board and participate toward a consensus for action
  • Commitment and integrity
  • Interest in the careers of Technician and Technologist Engineers
  • Strong communication skills.
