The Electrical Workers Registration Board (the Board) is established under the Electricity Act 1992 (the Act). The Board promotes safety for all New Zealanders by ensuring the competence of electrical workers.
The Board is a combination governance board and disciplinary tribunal, holding regular disciplinary hearings.

Specific skills required
At this time, the Minister of Building and Construction is seeking candidates who are registered and have a current practising licence. Expressions of interest are especially encouraged from electrical inspectors, registered electricians and individuals with the relevant qualifications and experience in industry training, education or teaching.
In addition, the successful candidate will be able to bring an objective and fair approach to disciplinary hearings, be collaborative and an effective communicator, and be willing and available to devote time and energy to the role.
Additional skills, experience and attributes required
Knowledge of and experience in:
- A licence in one or more classes of registration.
- A thorough knowledge of the Act, the Electrical (Safety) Regulations 2010 and the related New Zealand Standards and Codes of Practice.
- Broad involvement or engagement across the electrical industry as a contractor and/or electrical worker.
- Regulatory governance experience or experience of working in a regulatory environment.
- An understanding of public accountability and the relationship between the Government and an occupational licensing board.
- The ability to articulate their reasoning/rationale.
- An ability to work effectively within a team, a collegial spirit and the ability to think independently.
