Mō tēnei tūranga mahi | About This Role

 

As Deputy Secretary Te Whakatairanga Service Delivery, you will lead a large and diverse group responsible for delivering MBIE's regulatory obligations and a range of services that underpin economic growth and protect consumers.  As a member of the Senior Leadership Team, you will carry collective accountability for the Ministry's strategic objectives and work closely with the Chief Executive and your executive colleagues to drive performance, lift capability, and deliver for New Zealanders.

 

Your key responsibilities will include:

  • Strategic Leadership: Contribute to MBIE's governance as part of the Senior Leadership Team, driving the strategic direction and long-term vision for Te Whakatairanga Service Delivery.
  • Service Delivery Excellence: Lead a senior management team to deliver customer-focused, innovative, and business-like services and regulatory functions that meet the needs of New Zealanders.
  • Transformational Change: Lead major change across a distributed business to achieve measurable improvements in service delivery, fostering a culture of continuous improvement and capability development.
  • Commercial Focus: Apply sound financial and commercial acumen to guide resource allocation, manage large departmental and non-departmental budgets, and drive organisational performance.
  • Ministerial Relationships: Work alongside the Chief Executive to manage relationships with Ministers and Government, providing timely and relevant advice on key issues.

 

Ko wai koe | About You

 

We are looking for an experienced senior executive, ideally at DCE level, with significant service delivery leadership and proven change management capability.  In particular, you will need:

 

  • Significant experience leading a complex, highly visible service delivery or regulatory function at a very senior executive level, ideally in the public sector or a comparable regulated environment.
  • Demonstrated success in leading major change across a distributed business to achieve measurable improvements in service delivery and operational performance.
  • Exceptional people leadership skills, with the ability to engage, motivate and develop a large and diverse workforce.
  • Sound financial and business or commercial experience at the senior executive level.
  • Political nous and a proven track record of building and maintaining trust and confidence with Ministers and senior officials on sensitive and complex issues.
  • Resilience, personal accountability, and the courage to make difficult calls.
