While we live and breathe procurement, our branch is a support function to those doing the mahi in the procurement system – government agencies and the suppliers and providers they work with.  We are less of a procurement shop than a shop filled with data, systems, communications, contract and project management people who love procurement. And yes, we have some procurement specialists!

 

Tēnei tūranga - About the Role:

 

 

The Data and Insights Analyst reports to the Manager NZ Procurement Intelligence and Insights within the New Zealand Government Procurement (NZGP) branch.

 

The successful applicant will provide business and data analytical services, including identifying, monitoring, evaluating and reporting on outcomes, issues, trends and challenges. You will enable teams to become self-sufficient in reporting and providing solutions to support NZGP’s prioritisation and development of systems and tools with insight led data and insights.

 

The Data and Insights Analyst ensures quality and consistency of advice and practices. You will bring a clear understanding of how data and information assets can be efficiently and effectively exploited, and provide support throughout NZGP to deliver the overarching branch approach to insights, data management, reporting, data analysis, and information gathering. You will learn how to translate requirements into effective solutions that will greatly impact your team's perception of value. You will be a passionate learner, always keen to pick up new skills and understand new ideas.

  • Excellent interpersonal skills; demonstrated by credibility, personal or collaborative influence, managing expectations and targeted persuasion. 
  • Ability to design and develop smart business solutions from complex data sources using the tools utilised by the Procurement Data Analytics team.
  • Clear communication skills. Understanding the needs of our stakeholders and communicating complex ideas to them. Being confident and able to clearly communicate complex ideas is a key skill required for this role.
  • Experience in determining data required for reporting purposes and how best to report. 
  • Strong knowledge and experience of: 
    • Advanced Excel skills and knowledge of Microsoft Office suite.
    • Analytical tools including R, SQL and Power BI.
    • Microsoft Dynamics CRM. 
    • Understanding of Data modelling, Data Structure including Data quality and assurance processes.
  • Ability to critically analyse complex data, develop metrics and measurable performance indicators. A good understanding of statistical trend analysis.
  • Organised with good time and task management skills and the ability to manage multiple priorities and demands from stakeholders.
  • Well-developed analytical and conceptual thinking. 
  • High degree of political nous and a strong working knowledge of the machinery of Government. 
  • Analytical experience using complex and disparate information to deliver insights and trends.
  • Relevant Tertiary qualification or comparable relevant experience and/or professional development demonstrating qualifications for the role.
