Tēnei tūranga - About the Role:
The Government Property Office (GPO) leads the strategic management of the government’s property portfolio. As a Data Support Analyst, you’ll join our Property Information & Performance team and play an essential role in keeping our property data accurate, accessible, and useful.
This role is ideal for someone early in their data journey — a recent graduate or someone with up to 1–2 years’ experience who wants to grow their skills across data management, analysis, customer interaction, and digital tools.
What you’ll be doing:
- Enter, maintain, and validate property data in our Government Property Portal
- Work closely with staff across MBIE and other government agencies, helping them understand and use our systems
- Extract, transform and load data from various sources, including documents, databases, and operational systems
- Use tools like Power BI, Excel, and MBIE’s analytics platforms to produce simple insights
- Support continuous improvement by following processes — and knowing when to adapt when things change
- Help identify emerging issues, risks, or opportunities in property data
- Provide excellent customer service and assist colleagues with ad hoc data and system queries

We’re looking for someone who:
- Is early in their analytics or data career — recent graduates encouraged to apply
- Has strong attention to detail and enjoys working with processes, data entry, and quality checks
- Can follow established procedures but also navigate ambiguity
- Is confident using Microsoft products — familiarity with Power BI, PowerApps, or advanced Excel is a real advantage
- Communicates clearly, both in writing and in person
- Enjoys engaging with customers and supporting users
- Is curious, collaborative, and eager to build capability in modern analytics tools
- Has the legal right to live and work in New Zealand
- Experience working in government or understanding public sector processes is helpful but not required.
