Tēnei tūranga - About the Role:
We’re looking for a Commercial Leader to join our team and provide high-quality procurement and commercial advice across MBIE. In this role, you’ll help achieve better commercial outcomes, negotiate improved deals, and ensure compliance with Government Procurement Rules while delivering economic benefits to New Zealand.
You’ll inject pace and expertise into high priority projects, support in-house procurement capability, and contribute to work streams that make a real impact. This is a chance to be a trusted advisor and deliver innovative solutions that align procurement with organisational strategy.

To succeed in this role, you will bring:
- Proven experience in commercial, procurement and project management.
- A reputation as a trusted advisor with strong commercial acumen and pragmatic problem solving skills.
- Ability to navigate ambiguity in complex, dynamic environments.
- Experience leading or contributing to large scale projects.
- Strong analytical skills to assess complex commercial and procurement situations.
- Excellent written communication skills for producing clear, high quality documentation.
- High self motivation and a collaborative approach.
- A relevant qualification in legal, ICT, property, construction, or a commercial/business discipline (desirable).
- Legal right to live and work in New Zealand.
Key Accountabilities:
- Lead and oversee projects or programmes of work to deliver optimal commercial outcomes.
- Develop and implement procurement strategies, seeking innovative solutions where needed.
- Build strong relationships with stakeholders and act as a trusted advisor.
- Drive projects to meet deliverables and timelines while managing multiple priorities.
- Contribute to MBIE’s internal procurement and commercial objectives, ensuring cost neutrality and efficient resource use.
