About the Role - Tēnei tūranga:
We're seeking a highly motivated Advisor Data and Information who is passionate about helping people find, access and use information effectively. This is an excellent opportunity to join a collaborative team that provides digital and physical information services across MBIE. You will be a natural relationship builder who enjoys working with a wide range of stakeholders and supporting staff to strengthen information stewardship practices across the Ministry. With a strong customer focus, you will help embed a positive information culture while ensuring services are efficient, accessible and aligned with organisational requirements. As part of a team delivering records and information management services, you will play a key role in supporting EDRMS and records management services. You will work closely with colleagues and business groups to ensure information resources are discoverable, maintained and managed effectively, while meeting service delivery standards and customer expectations.
The Advisor supports MBIE to unlock greater value from its information assets by delivering services that make information easier to find, access and use. You will contribute to continuous improvement initiatives and help strengthen information management practices across the Ministry.
What you'll bring
- Experience supporting users of document, content or records management systems, including EDRMS platforms.
- Strong attention to detail and the ability to locate, analyse and manage information and records effectively.
- Excellent relationship management and customer service skills.
- The ability to prioritise work and meet deadlines in a dynamic environment.
- A collaborative approach and commitment to continuous improvement.
- Experience with contract management or administration would be advantageous.
What you will do
In this role, you will contribute to initiatives and projects that strengthen MBIE's information management capability. This includes helping build and maintain the foundations, controls, standards and practices that support robust, safe and transparent information management.
You will help ensure information is managed in accordance with legislative and policy requirements, including the Public Records Act, privacy requirements and MBIE's information management framework, while supporting the organisation to make the most of its information assets.
Please note this is NOT a Data Analyst role. We govern data so that other people can use it.

Skills and Experience Required
- Proven ability to quickly build/maintain strong working relationships across diverse teams and stakeholder groups, with a collaborative approach that fosters trust and engagement.
- A self-starter with a high level of initiative, curiosity and resilience - someone who thrives in ambiguity, brings energy to the team, and is always looking for ways to improve processes.
- Occasional off site storage duties that may require some heavy lifting.
- Ideally you will be familiar with EDRMS and Content Server.
- Experience in developing, supporting and implementing people centred solutions.
- Previous public sector experience and or knowledge of the Public Records act is preferred.
- Exceptional teamwork and collaborative abilities and a willingness to share knowledge and expertise with others.
- Be open to the use of new tools and systems and be able to support the retrieval of critical information required for OIA’s.
- A tertiary qualification in Information Management or equivalent experience would be an advantage.
- Must have the legal right to work in New Zealand.
