  • An exciting opportunity for an Advisor to join the New Zealand Major Events team.
  • Manage a specific portfolio of events from within the Major Events Fund.
  • Work closely with event delivery agencies, host city partners, and other Crown agencies to support successful delivery and maximise the benefits for New Zealand.
  • Receive and assess applications to the Major Events Fund and make investment recommendations.
  • Use your project skills and prepare briefings and advice for Ministers and provide support and input into the wider team’s work.
  • Salary: $85,537 - $101,911, full time, perm, Wellington or Auckland, with other New Zealand locations considered.

 

Tēnei tūranga - About the Role:

 

New Zealand Major Events advises government about investing in major events, and partners with the events sector to attract events and leverage event benefits for NZ.  New Zealand Major Events is an advisor to government ministers on aligning events to government objectives; the link between the events sector and the operational and leverage arms of government; an investor in events to achieve outcomes that align with government priorities and a partner with other event stakeholders to attract, deliver and leverage major events.


Key responsibilities for this role include:

 

  • Event investment management to ensure events are successfully delivered and government outcomes are achieved.  This will include effectively managing an individual portfolio of events across the lifecycle of investment, providing sound advice and support to fund applicants, and producing robust event analysis, recommendations, and investment advice.
  • Delivering project work, building and maintaining strong systems across the Major Events Fund and wider team. This will include owning or contributing to multiple workstreams, sharing ideas and workload, meeting obligations under the Official Information Act, and ensuring all reporting requirements are fulfilled.
  • Relationship management, including building and maintaining effective relationships and partnerships with internal and external stakeholders, and encouraging effective cross-agency engagement to effectively collaborate to achieve government investment outcomes.

Skills and Experience Required
 

  • The ability to quickly establish, build and maintain strong, effective working relationships.
  • The ability to work well under pressure to meet deadlines and deliverables.
  • Flexibility and positivity in responding to changes in priorities and demands for work.
  • The ability to gather relevant information, analyse data, identify issues and make recommendations in ambiguous environments.
  • The ability to understand financial, contractual, legislative and economic information.
  • Strong written communication skills, including the ability to prepare well-structured, robust and clear papers.
  • An eye for risk and opportunity.
  • An understanding of the machinery of government is advantageous.
  • A relevant tertiary qualification or equivalent knowledge, skills, and experience.
  • Flexibility to adapt within a fast-moving environment.
  • Good working knowledge of local government and experience in the events industry or tourism sector is a significant advantage.
  • Comfortable working collaboratively and using online tools, with occasional and event related travel. 
  • The legal right to work in Aotearoa New Zealand.
