About the Role - Tēnei tūranga:
As an Advisor in New Zealand Major Events, you'll play a key role in supporting the delivery and success of some of New Zealand's most significant events. Working within the government's lead agency for major events, you'll manage a portfolio of events funded through the Major Events Fund, partnering with event organisers, host cities, Crown agencies, and other stakeholders to maximise benefits for New Zealand communities, businesses, and visitors.
Your work will be varied and rewarding, from assessing funding applications and developing investment recommendations, to leading project work and providing advice and briefings for Ministers. This is an opportunity to contribute to high-profile events, influence investment decisions, and help deliver outcomes that align with government priorities while working as part of a collaborative and highly engaged team.
Key responsibilities for this role include:
- Event investment management to ensure event outcomes are achieved. This will include effectively managing an individual portfolio of events across the lifecycle of investment, providing sound advice and support to fund applicants, and producing robust event analysis, recommendations, and investment advice.
- Delivering project work, building and maintaining strong systems across the Major Events Fund and wider team. This will include owning or contributing to multiple workstreams, sharing ideas and workload, meeting obligations under the Official Information Act, and ensuring all reporting requirements are fulfilled.
- Receive and assess applications to the Major Events Fund and make investment recommendations. You will also take on some project work, prepare briefings and advice for Ministers, and provide support and input into the wider team’s work.
- Relationship management, including building and maintaining effective relationships and partnerships with internal and external stakeholders, and encouraging effective cross-agency engagement to effectively collaborate to achieve government investment outcomes.

Skills and Experience Required
- The ability to quickly establish, build and maintain strong, effective working relationships
- The ability to work well under pressure to meet deadlines and deliverables · Flexibility and positivity in responding to changes in priorities and demands for work
- The ability to gather relevant information, analyse data, identify issues and make recommendations in ambiguous environments
- The ability to understand financial, contractual, legislative and economic information · Strong written communication skills, including the ability to prepare well-structured, robust and clear papers
- An eye for risk and opportunity
- An understanding of the machinery of government is advantageous
- A relevant tertiary qualification or equivalent knowledge, skills, and experience
- Flexibility to adapt within a fast-moving environment
- Good working knowledge of local government and experience in the events industry or tourism sector is a significant advantage ·
- Comfortable working collaboratively and using online tools, with occasional and event-time travel
