Tēnei tūranga - About the Role:
We are looking for a senior and experienced candidate to take up a role representing New Zealand on the international stage. North America is a key partner region for our Space, and Science and Innovation systems. This is a key overseas posting responsible for making an important contribution to the internationalisation of New Zealand’s science, innovation and technology system, as well as advancing the interests of New Zealand’s space sector. The successful candidate will do this by managing a number of relationships in the US and Canada and supporting the implementation of key projects in the Space, and Science and Innovation work programmes.
As part of the International Science Partnerships Team within MBIE, the role is responsible for developing connections with senior individuals across governments, science and policy organisations, as well as businesses and other relevant organisations.
The role is based in the New Zealand Embassy in Washington D.C. and will be a senior member of the diplomatic staff. Applications are sought from policy experts with senior level experience (manager or director) for this high-profile role.
To be successful in this role, you will have:
• The enthusiasm and drive to position New Zealand as an internationally recognised smart, innovative and collaborative nation.

• The ability to develop and maintain senior and operational relationships that give access for New Zealand to influential individuals and networks, including for Ministers and senior officials when they travel to your regions.
• Strong organisational skills – you will need to be good at multi-tasking and juggling several priorities at any one time.
• In-depth knowledge of government processes and policy development, alongside experience working internationally.
This is a demanding role which requires the successful candidate to be adaptable and flexible. You will need to be willing to undertake a moderate to high amount of travel across North America during the term of the position and have flexibility in your hours of work to accommodate working across multiple time zones.
Overseas transfer and living allowances are provided for. The position is full-time and will be offered for three years, with the possibility to extend by one year.
