Are you an experienced compliance professional with a strong understanding of regulatory frameworks and risk assessment? Do you enjoy investigating complex matters, making sound decisions, and working collaboratively with partner agencies to protect the integrity of New Zealand's markets?

Business Registries, part of the New Zealand Companies Office within MBIE's Market Integrity Branch, is looking for a Senior Compliance Officer Financial Registries to join our team.

As a Senior Compliance Officer Financial Registries, you will be responsible for assessing applications for registration as Financial Service Providers under the Financial Service Providers (Registration and Dispute Resolution) Act 2008. You will review and interrogate applications, identify high-risk indicators, and undertake enquiries to ensure robust and consistent regulatory decision-making.

You will also play an important role in the deregistration of non-compliant Financial Service Providers, working closely with agencies including the Financial Markets Authority (FMA) and the Department of Internal Affairs (DIA).

This role contributes directly to Business Registries' compliance and enforcement strategy and offers the opportunity to work on matters that help protect the integrity of New Zealand's financial system.

Skills and Experience Required
 

• Strong knowledge of New Zealand legislation, particularly the: 
• • Financial Service Providers (Registration and Dispute Resolution) Act
  • Companies Act
  • Privacy Act
  • Official Information Act
• Experience in compliance, enforcement, regulatory, investigative, or related work.
• Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to assess risk and identify potential offending early in an investigation.
• Excellent planning and organisational skills, including the ability to manage competing priorities and perform under pressure.
• Exceptional written and verbal communication skills.
• Experience producing high-quality reports and case files within prescribed timeframes.
• Strong stakeholder engagement skills with the confidence to work with applicants, regulatory agencies, and senior stakeholders.
• A commitment to continuous improvement, learning, and knowledge sharing.
• The ability to build credibility, trust, and positive working relationships across all levels.
• Must have the legal right to live and work in New Zealand
