MBIE is one of NZ’s largest and most diverse public sector agencies. You’ll be part of a team that appears before licensing boards, tribunals, and courts – gaining exposure to real legal work that makes a difference.
As a Legal Executive, you’ll be working alongside experienced lawyers in either our Auckland or Wellington office, supporting a wide range of legal work across MBIE’s enforcement activities. You’ll help manage litigation files, draft correspondence and court documents, and keep things running smoothly behind the scenes.
This is a great opportunity for someone who’s:
- In their final years of law school, or
- A recent law graduate looking to build practical experience in litigation and / or public law.
- An experienced legal executive with a passion for litigation.
What you’ll be doing:
- Helping manage litigation files and supporting solicitors with case prep
- Drafting letters and assisting with court documents
- Coordinating admin tasks like liaising with IT and scheduling meetings
- Being a go-to team member for keeping things organised and on track

To be successful in the role, you will need to be:
- Super-organised and able to juggle multiple tasks
- A great communicator – both written and verbal
- A team player with strong relationship skills
- Proactive, enthusiastic, and ready to learn.
You will also need to have a full NZ driver’s licence and be legally able to work in NZ.
