Welcome to New Zealand Government Procurement

Working with us, you will tackle complex commercial problems, shape the procurement system and make a difference in the life of New Zealanders.

We have a breadth of interesting, exciting and challenging work that affects wider social, economic, cultural and environmental outcomes. Looking at how government can reduce carbon emissions, setting the direction for management of large, strategic government suppliers or influencing system wide change across commercial categories is all in a day’s work.

About us

Government Procurement is a branch within the Ministry of Business, Innovation and Employment (MBIE).

We help government agencies to deliver better public value through broader outcomes that go beyond the purchase of goods and services. Getting procurement right is important. Each year, government agencies spend approximately $42 billion, around 18% GDP, on a wide range of goods and services from suppliers.

What do we do?

We set the policy direction, strategy and framework for procurement in the New Zealand public sector.

We make procurement easier through systems and frameworks that support quality decision-making, including the Government Electronic Tendering Service (GETS).

We help build procurement capability within agencies through training and development, and other tools and resources.

We support government agencies with advice and expertise.

We set up and manage All-of-Government contract for goods and services, from stationery to Hybrid and Electronic vehicles.

We are working towards an innovative e-procurement ecosystem that makes it easier for government and suppliers to do business; and where information, tools and business opportunities are accessible, timely and targeted.
